Actually, this is the best type of boise! It is the most consistent, and best tasting, if not best smelling. For whatever reason, I am a sucker for it. I have never liked the taste of it, so it’s not on my list of favorite stews or soups, but it is the closest thing I’ve found to a boise.
Although boise is a type of stew, it does have a slight smoky flavor to it. Although not as noticeable as the other flavors that are present, smoke is still present in the taste, just in the background. It is made with carrots, peas, onions, and garlic. The veggies are cooked in the water, which creates a smoky flavor, but the onions are added later for a deeper flavor.
I was intrigued by this and decided it was worth a try. I used a small amount of the pea and onion mixture and added smoked paprika to it for a kick.
I am a big fan of this as it’s a great smokey flavor that helps to reduce any smoky flavor from the veggies. I think it is also a great addition to any soup. The recipe is available on our recipe page.
I cooked this with smoked paprika, but if you use regular paprika (or other smoked spices) it will work just as well.
