At lowes, we’re just a bunch of people working to make a living. On a day-to-day basis, we are not a department of any kind. This has been the case for years, and our managers, as well as everyone else at our company, are now doing the same thing. They are all gone. When I say gone, I mean gone.
If you don’t want to think about the rest of your life, you should think about the rest of your life, too.
The way I see it, the only reason we are not a department of any kind is because we were never one at the start of the year. If we were, we would have to start a department the day after Christmas and have people show up on the first of January. We are now a department of a department, which is a bit disturbing, but also a bit funny.
You see, the department is supposed to be the place where all the employees of a specific department get to know each other and hang out. It is the same way you would be expected to do at a retail store. We all know the retail staff, but you can’t be expected to be friends with everyone.
We’ve always assumed that the department is the place where a customer will be able to show up at the end of the day. Not that we can’t be sure. But we are now in a pretty strange position. We are only supposed to be the last one in the department. We have to get more people into the department before Christmas. The department will have to be closed. We have to get more people into the department after Christmas.
Oh look! It’s going to be a busy day! So many customers have been trying to get into our store, but we are all busy.
Yeah it’s a bit weird. We’re at a point where we are closing down the department. The department has been open for months, so I think we have a pretty good idea of what to do. But if there is a huge number of customers trying to get into the department, it will make it even harder to get to the end of the day.
At any rate, the department managers have been out of business since December. But this doesn’t mean we’re done yet. The department managers are all going to be in for another month or so. We’re going to take extra care with them so they don’t cause trouble for anyone else. In the meantime, we are trying to get more people in and keep the department open as long as possible. It’s hard for them to leave and have time to clean up and get ready to open.
It’s a hard job, and there are plenty of other jobs that require that level of skill, but we have to remind them that the rest of the world is still out there. It just takes a while longer.
But we also have our own challenges. If youre anything like me, you have to be a total pain in the ass in order to stay employed. We are fortunate to have great managers, but they are busy and we need to do our best to do our work. As I write this at about 4am, I am going to have to get up and make the coffee.
